EV charging switchboard design and installation considerations | Eaton PSEC
9:23
Learn about the practical aspects of installing EV chargers as Eaton’s Power Systems Experience Center (PSEC) team installs twelve level 2 EV chargers and how Eaton’s EV charging infrastructure (EVCI) alleviates some of the complexity. Erik Hurd, PSEC Senior Engineer, starts off by presenting the PSEC as a case study in installing EV chargers in a parking lot. The team wanted level 2 AC chargers which are common in both commercial and residential applications. Follow along to see some of the challenges the team faced due to existing conduit and cable. As part of the design phase, the PSEC team narrowed it down to three systems which all included a range of Eaton EVCI solutions, such as: • Eaton’s EV smart breaker charger • EV charging panelboard • EV charging switchboard • Integrated Facility Systems (IFS) switchboard • Direct connect kit • Junction box kit In the end, the PSEC team chose an integrated system that also allows for future proofing with the ability to add DC fast charging later. The chosen design is also a compact, integrated system that includes security and cable management to ensure safety and prevent damage.
